The Oxford Murders

No image for this one, but there was an odd Amanita reference in the movie The Oxford Murders – when speculating on the cause of death for one fellow, one of the characters says:

“However, there is another possibility, a substance they extract from a poisonous mushroom, Amanita muscaria. There are no reagents that detect it, so it’s sort of a secret among forensic pathologists.”

No such secret Amanita substance exists… although perhaps if one extracted the active chemicals from the mushroom and injected them directly into a person’s bloodstream, it might be enough to kill them, even though just eating the mushroom won’t do it (unless you eat several dozen).
