Amanitas on “Monk”

Watched an old episode of the tv show “Monk” today (Season 4, Episode 8), and Monk and a friend are in an art museum looking at a painting: a woman chopping mushrooms with a man sitting at the kitchen table behind her. Monk explains that she’s planning to murder the man, because she’s preparing amanita mushrooms (“you can tell by the little white spots”) and they’re “a deadly poison.” Of course, they aren’t – that’s a common misconception – but it was still a neat amanita reference. Here’s a screen shot of the painting up close:

You would be everyone’s hero if you could tell us the name & artist of the painting in this episode. Thanks!

Actually at a dosage of 15 caps, the neurotoxin ibotenic acid located in the mushroom becomes lethal, so the quantity she is cutting up could be seen as a “deadly poison”. Still, love this reference. Adrian is so awesome! 😀

I’ve been looking for this painting for some time after I saw it on Monk; I enjoyed the reference to amanita mushrooms as well!
